The 4th Most Powerful Woman In The World

Forbes Powerful Women List

Sadly the left doesn't like her and since she is not "the right type of Black" she gets no cover from the usual suspects.

(White Liberals are not racists. They just love Black folks. As long as we are the subordinate in the relationship that is.)

40 Years of ‘The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual’

Review: ‘The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual’

I feel embarrassed.
I purchased this book about 5 years ago and never read it. I got pulled so far into work related reading and study that I figured that a book so thick was too much of a chore to read. I will have to pull this out of its box and read it after all upon reading an overview of its contents.

Things Were So Wonderful BEFORE NCLB - I Guess

I guess the delay in receiving my login to the Huffington post is meant to be. It has allowed me to read all of Dan Brown's views on No Child Left Behind. Clearly he is AGAINST NCLB and so called 'high stakes testing'.

As I think about it - since the Democratic Presidential candidates refuse to help promote "Fox News" - an outlet that is so hostile to their interests - I will follow suit and not add the value of my content to the Huffington Post, a similarly biased and agendized source which is equally counter to my interests of having an INDEPENDENT Black populace. We need educators who seek to "fix" our problem rather than "help the poor victims of societal misalignment", using them as the vehicle to accomplish their ends.

My blog site is as credit-worthy as your sir.
**************************

I find it interesting that he applauds Hillary Clinton for saying that the "promise of NCLB has been broken" as she points to LACK OF FUNDING. Most people don't realize that "NCLB" is not original legislation. NCLB is a reauthorization of the "Elementary and Secondary Education Act" - part of Title 1. Thus if we want to compare FUNDING then this gives us an opportunity to compare Bush's against the beloved Bill Clinton:

Educational Spending FACTS

If Bush has "Short Changed" the Public Schools.....what did President Bill Clinton do with regard to funding. Please note that ESEA also got reauthorized during Clinton's term. This was called "Improving America's School Act". "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Improving_America%27s_Schools_Act"

Where as Clinton was invited to attend the NEA convention in the closing years of his presidency and enjoyed thunderous applause, the NEA sued George Bush because he failed to provide enough funding for public education. The chart above speaks for itself.

Dan, Dan, Dan - not the old "21 Century Learning Centers" have been shorted trick.

Today, that promise has been broken. President Bush's budget for 2007 provides $12 billion less than was promised by the No Child Left Behind Act, including $1.24 million less for New York. If enacted, that would mean 374,141 eligible children will be denied services. And at a time when parents are working harder and needing the assurance that their children are in safe places between the hours of 3 and 5, President Bush's budget calls for funding of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program at over $1.5 billion below the promised amount. The President's budget leaves behind 2 million students who would receive after school services if the were funded at the level promised in the No Child Left Behind Act.

I have a full story on this that I can't find. The bottom line Dan (from memory) Bill Clinton first funded this program at the tune of $125 million. When he left office the funding was $485 million. Bush's 2006 budget request funded this program to the tune of $900 million and HE WAS STILL CRITICIZED because they wanted $1.1 billion in funding.

Can we have an honest dialogue Dan?

****************************************

I don't pretend to have the classroom experience of Dan Brown or Jonathan Kozol. I can only claim about 3/4'th of a year in the classroom as s substitute teacher when I first moved to town and was looking for a job. I will not attempt to "out wonk" them on educational policy.

It is clear to me that their collective soft underbelly is on getting them to defend the period before No Child Left Behind which must have been so wonderful and was stolen from them.

My target is Mr. Kozol because I have read at least 2 of his books and have witnessed several of his interviews. I believe him to be a "White Supremacist" by definition. His view, as expressed on "America's Black Forum" is that Black people should pursue a course of "School Integration" (going to schools with White folks) as the primary means of improving educational access for Black people. He said that majority Black schools will never provide quality education for Black children. In the days of "YouTube" I wish I had the tape of the episode.

The fact remains that both Mr. Kozol and Mr. Brown are pushing an agenda upon which they can't argue a "negative" when in fact the longer track record for urban education is indeed absent NCLB and the high stakes testing that they both dislike so. As I have clearly articulated in my blow by blow dissection of the interview - Mr. Kozol is fast and loose with his claims. He is an "Anti-NCLB Zealot" and will say anything to make his case.

Once again - If someone seeks to discredit a particular program or spending level then it is incumbent upon them to make the case that the situation PRIOR TO the adopt of the program was better for the intended target. Neither Mr. Brown and most certainly not Mr. Kozol are able to do this.

I am at least happy that Mr. Brown labeled me a "conservative blog" where as Ms. Rehm in her introduction did not label the Huffington Post as a "leftist web site". I quick perusal of the main page today shows the company that Mr. Brown keeps as an ideological hit man.

These kids are not pawns to be played with in an ideological gun battle.
You left after one year sir.

Sorry - I Am Not Going To Wear Your Guilt Trip

I find it interesting how some of my fellow Black people attempt to use various techniques to "shame" people into compliance with their own ideological biases. We can't even come to agreement on the ignorance of your young males wearing their pants off of their azzes in public and yet you want to condemn ME for supporting "policies that hurt Black people"? Negro please. I ain't buying whatever you are selling.

It seems to me that there is a proclivity for some people to warn about the "pitchfork justice" that awaits this country as a growing "permanent underclass" (his words) of Black people grow frustrated about how some third party has "perpetuated their condition". It appears that I produce the greater insult to dare suggest that they become more aware and reasonable in their choices, viewing the opportunities that are out there and preparing themselves accordingly.

Anything short of my complete agreement that there is a vast conspiracy against the Black man, to hold us down and "perpetuate us as an underclass" make me a co-conspirator to the scheme. It seems that because I was 'GIVEN' a job in this same system that my loyalties to this system has outstripped the loyalty to my RACE! I am expected to go into these "ghetto areas" and offer assistance as PROOF of my "Blackness".

But hold on BROTHER! What if my DEBATES with you with me telling you my perspective and how I avoided being ensnared in this net that keeps people in the permanent underclass is my first foray into the "mind of the ghetto"? You REJECT my notions but you want me to PHYSICALLY go into the hood to "help"? What if I began to proselytize these souls over to my way of thinking - THAT YOU REJECT? You will then have more ideological enemies on hand to counter against. Clearly you want me to shut up, depart from my foolish ways and offer resources to these, the "permanent underclass" that were MADE this way.

Why is it that the reverse is not true? You are bitter about your situation. I am content that I have set out and accomplished what I had hoped for. Why can't it be that YOU are the one in need of change despite your offense to my position?

You keep telling me how POPULAR certain political ideologies are among "Black people" and how alternative ideologies have been REJECTED and thus the discussion is a non-starter. But wait - why is it that you promote such a notion? Should it be the other way around? In our time of great aggrievement a certain set of ideologies are POPULAR with Black people but thus far this program has failed to EFFECTIVELY cure Black people of our aggrieved position. Please tell me why this is not a legitimate analysis of the situation at hand?

What makes you think that as I engage the "permanent underclass" that they too won't refuse to change their ways, rejecting what I have to say that might loosen the grip that is making them "the permanent underclass" not of their own doing? If you, who positions yourself as the best and brightest among them are hostile and rejecting of my notions then what makes you think that the followers of your system of "conditioned hopelessness" will be any more inclined to want to change?

I am open for a meeting on neutral ground. You come to the table with an open mind. I will do the same.

Questions For The White Liberals Who CLAIM To Have Our Best Interests In Mind

"A Picture Is Worth A Million Words In This Case
As a follow up to the detailed review of an interview with Jonathan Kozol, a White liberal education activist who I have had pegged for a long time as a "White Supremacist" in his views upon Black people. (See original post: Poster Child)

Questions that the biased Diane Rehm would NEVER ask Jonathan Kozol or Dan Brown

Questions for Dan Brown

1) Mr. Brown - I see that YOU left the majority minority school that you referenced as a "jungle" after only one year for an elite Private school. Mr. Brown - could you detail your prior experiences with people of color prior to your teaching assignment? Did culture shock and your references to the "white norm" come into play in your discomfort with this situation?

1a) You said that your goal was to "give back" to society. You departed after 1 year to teach school kids that would succeed without your help. Do you feel that you have betrayed your original mission in any way?

2) Mr. Brown - you mentioned that one particular student had much difficulty at home and you reached out to him and allowed him to open up. At the end of your engagement he was able to write a story and do poetry but he failed the standardized test. Mr. Brown - if you were a patient of this person as he went on to become a professional - would you make use of his services if your life or freedoms depended on it being that he was able to satisfy you due to your "up close and personal" contact with you but he was not able to pass the standardized test just as a lawyer, doctor or CPA is expected to pass. Are you really doing this kid a favor, Mr. Brown?

3) Mr. Brown - I notice that you direct most of your commentary about the low skills that these students have upon their lot in life. You state that their parents often have low academic skills themselves and are very self conscious about their own shortcomings. This clearly gets transfered over to the children. Mr. Brown if we were to have you step outside your confinement as a teacher and make note of the best way to improve these children's chances for success - would you focus on changing the SCHOOL SYSTEM or focus on changing the PARENTS and their engagements with the children from their ability to provide early childhood education back to consideration of their ability to provide for the child in the first place? Aren't we looking at a problem that is much greater than the 4 walls of the school Mr. Brown?

Questions for Jonathan Kozol

1) Mr. Kozol - you have made repeated negative references to No Child Left Behind. You have been in the classrooms of poor environments since the 1960's. Since clearly you don't like NCLB - could you articulate the policies that were in place BEFORE NCLB and how they were more effective than NCLB? Why were these policies removed if they were so effective?

2) Mr Kozol - Senator Ted Kennedy was a co-sponsor of the NCLB legislation. You being on the left are no doubt critical of the intentions of President Bush, a Republican. What of Ted Kennedy though? He is a progressive legislator and has a track record of dealing with poverty programs in a progressive and sensitive way. What do you make of Kennedy's involvement in the authorship of this legislation?

3) Mr. Kozol - I noticed in an excerpt from your new book (which appeared in various Sunday papers) that in your visit to a lunchroom of a school in NYC that you reported on seeing fist fights and certain language. You blamed this on the over-crowded schools and on underfunding. You made reference to a White school in New Hampshire that had a more intellectually stimulating environment. Mr. Kozol - why do you make the fights a function of the physical plant of the school but you attempt to deflect any obligation for respectful behavior within the school by the students?

4) Mr Kozol - during our interview you mentioned that in the 8th grade these "NCLB students" having been exposed to the program for 4 years STILL could not participate in an intellectual conversation in the classroom. You attribute this inability to NCLB and its rote and repetitive learning style. Implicitly it seems that you are saying that prior to NCLB these same kids would be fully articulate in the 8th grade. Mr. Kozol - could you tell me specifically why you believe that NCLB had the power to turn children who were otherwise on the path toward literacy and articulation into students who could barely communicate with regard to any basic structure imposed upon them by an educator?

5) Mr. Kozol - you state that the teachers that you have talked to have departed schools primarily due to NCLB. As we consider history - school discipline has been of major concern. If you recall a few years ago there was a national outrage about both the under-reporting of crimes in school by administrators who doctored the results and there was a national dialogue about metal detectors in school. Mr. Kozol -why is it that these major issues did not make the #1 placement on the list? Is it possible that these teachers that you talk to KNOW THAT YOU ARE AN "ANTI-NCLB ADVOCATE" and thus they know WHAT TO TELL YOU WHEN THEY ARE TALKING TO YOU? Surely Mr. Brown who is listening to your interview is getting the hint that he needs to savage NCLB, following your queue. Could this be how NCLB received the #1 ranking on your list?

6) Finally Mr. Kozol - a few years back on the show "America's Black Forum" you stated that all Black schools in this country will NEVER be able to provide high quality educational services to its students. You stated that more than anything else Black parents should advocate INTEGRATION with WHITE CHILDREN as the primary means for BLACK STUDENTS to receive education. When Rev. Floyd Flake and the rest of the panel gave you examples of schools that produce Black academic success you summarily dismissed these and called them rare exceptions. Mr. Kozol what specifically is it about Black kids going to sit in a classroom with WHITE KIDS that benefit BLACK KIDS academically?

6b) Mr. Kozol - can you tell us of any academic benefit that WHITE KIDS receive by sitting in the class room with BLACK KIDS or is it just a one way flow of benefit into Black kids? Please be specific about academics rather than cross-racial knowledge and exchange if you will. Thank you.

(I must comment on the picture above. I found it after I wrote the text.

You see - Jonathan Kozol is an extreme leftwing educational activist and, in my opinion, a White Supremacist. He is standing next to John Conyers - a Black left wing extremist in kind. They both have value to each other. Poor Black people are the pawn in both of their games.

Jonathan Kozol - as I have laid out for all REASONABLE people to see makes use of poor, ignorant Black people as the primary subjects to achieve his ideological ends. As I strip off his veneer in which he redirects his ire at their lack of academic progress upon the SCHOOL SYSTEM and educational policy as he makes implicit assaults upon THEM it is clear that this man does not see equal human beings in his presence.

One does not need to 'hate Black people' to be a 'White Supremacist'. A White Supremacist, by strict definition is one who believes that the systems, abilities, networks and culture created by WHITE FOLKS are better than what most others are able to put forth. Mr. Kozol seeks for Blacks to move into schools that are White culturally dominated as the primary means for Blacks to receive education. Someone can be a lover of dogs or orangutans BUT NOT dare see them as EQUAL to himself and thus place the same level of expectation upon them.

His pose with John Conyers is of great importance because they both are key players in "poverty politics". Mr. Conyers (and other Black Progressive) provide cover for the supremacy of Mr. Kozol. If any other White person did as is referenced in the 36:45 mark of my previous post which dissected the Kozol interview - all hell would break out among Black people.

John Conyers and other Progressive Black school administrators who swoon over Kozol are prostituting Black people and any remain racial dignity that we have left for the hope of receiving more federal educational money in alignment with their ideological motivations.)

Poor Inner City Black Student - The "Black Poster Child" For The White Liberal

The Black Poor - The Poster Child For The White Liberal's Interests

Here is my promised blow by blow analysis of the NPR interview with

Jonathan Kozol Educational Activist
Dan Brown – Contributor to the left wing Huffington Post

Diane Rehm show

Just a coincidence that Ms. Rehm took them in as educational experts but never attributed the label “liberal activist” to them as she would have a conservative commentator. (I listen to this show no less than 4 times a week. I know the pattern of Ms. Rehm and also Terri Gross on “Fresh Air”). If Mr. Brown wrote for “News Max” or some other conservative journal she would have expressly made mention of this.

Here is my blow by blow commentary of the audio interview

Time: 3:39

16th Congressional District is the poorest in the United States - As if I needed to guess which political party represents the district.

Horray for BLACK FOLKS!!!! The Democrats have TROUNCED the Republicans each time.......though this is the poorest congressional district in the nation according to Dan Brown.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York's_16th_congressional_district

Time: 5:25 White woman from a wealthy background goes into a majority Black school and receives CULTURE SHOCK. Mr. Kozol blames NCLB for her problems.

Now let us make note of Mr. Kozol's REAL AGENDA. I will make notice of how many times he makes a negative reference to NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.

Time: 6:15 “No Child Left Behind” = Drill and Kill Regime

This White woman gives all the kids and their parents her cellphone so they can call her at any time. How many average union teachers are going to do this?

Time: 7:04 – Second negative reference to NCLB – this teacher thumbed her nose at NCLB “Test & Terror”

Time 7:55 Dan Brown details his 'urban experience' for the audience
The children's problems is that they had experienced previous “oppressive experiences” in the class room and thus THIS “turned them off”.
You will notice that neither Kozol or Brown are interested in talking much about THE PARENTS and the part they play in shaping these children. It is assumed that these parents are BLACK and POOR and thus they CAN'T BE EXPECTED to provide a positive influence in these children's lives. Thus both of these characters blame THE SYSTEM for the state of the children......these poor, Black children.

Time 9:20 Brown came into the class room with a “7 week crash course”. Hold on. Many teachers were OPPOSED to the recent program in which “just anybody” was allowed to come into the teaching rolls not having had education as their college major.

Time: 11:00 Teacher goes to a kids house to bring his family some brownies that she made. This wins the kid over. Again – how many UNION teachers have ever visited YOUR HOUSE?
As a result – THE KID STARTS TO WRITE POETRY. Just what we need Mr. Kozol – more Black poets.

Time: 14:30 Doug Mescar, representative of the US Dept of Education Defends NCLB
Center on Education Policy http://www.cep-dc.org/

Time 17:50: Dan Brown rebuts the positive claims of NCLB. It seems that after NCLB school administrators were pressured to get the test scores up. PLEASE NOTE – neither Mr. Brown nor Mr. Kozol talk about how life was BEFORE “NCLB”. It must have been WONDERFUL!!

Brown attempts to blame NCLB for the loss of science courses, music courses, physical education and recess.

THIS made the kids “check out” he says. Once again – show the brilliant results BEFORE NCLB?

Time 18:40 Jonathon Kozol rebuts the DoE representative.
NOW GET THIS FOLKS – Kozol claims that 50% of the young teachers quit after 3 years of working in inner city schools. Kozol CLAIMS that their #1 reason is because of NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.

Now get this folks – NCLB was signed into law on January 8, 2002. It is a REAUTHORIZATION of the Title 1 program “Elementary and Secondary Education Act”
So lets give it the school year that started in September 2002 through the present August 2007. This means in 5 years MR KOZOL can make the case that NCLB caused these teachers to leave after 3 years. Does anyone want to purchase a bridge from me for cheap?

Time 19:50 FRAUD ALERT, FRAUD ALERT – Kozol makes the case that since the NCLB annual assessment tests are given in MARCH that this does not provide enough time for the current teachers to EVALUATE and then ASSIST the problem students toward improvement. Excuse me Mr. Kozol – don't the NEXT TEACHERS get a chance to see the test results and from there provide assistance to these students? Your negation is FLAWED. You don't like the testing and you are throwing up anything.

I just heard a Black talk radio show with a conservative host in which a caller told of his offense of hearing the names “Ray Ray and Pumpkin” to describe Black people. He said that the Black conservatives want to use the word “Nigger” but they use these words in stead. Mr. Kozol used the name “Shaniqua”. What is his purpose besides getting across the notion that he is talking about a Black kid?

Time 20:30 Mr. Kozol claims that the TESTS ARE NOT FAIR because the Wealthiest kids (code word for WHITE KIDS) have received 3 years of pre-K by the 3rd grade while the Poor kids (code word for Black kids) have NOT had preparation for the test. Please note that the test which is given in the 3rd grade tests 1st and 2nd grade skills.

Once again Mr. Kozol expresses his WHITE SUPREMACY. He assumes that poor kids had NO ACCESS to learning prior to their Kindergarten experiences. CERTAINLY their parents didn't do jack with them......they are too IGNORANT.

Time 23:13 Ms. Rehm adds her usual BIAS – She proclaims that “Music, Recess and Physical Education” has suffered with the adoption of NCLB. B.S........there are plenty of stories that can be pointed to that detail concerns about the loss of physical education and music classes LONG BEFORE NCLB was even thought of.

Time 23:44 Mr Kozol states that Chicago Public Schools have abolished recess. What he is actually saying is that the standard class room instruction time is not PRODUCTIVE ENOUGH to accomplish the task at hand so they must grab extra time to do what others do along with their recess.

LIAR ALERT, LIAR ALERT (Please note the DATE LINE on this web site which details the suspension of Recess in Chicago 1999 http://www.chicagoreporter.com/1999/06- 99/0699healthextra.htm) Clearly the CPS has ESP and saw NCLB coming years later so they acted preemptively to cancel recess. (This is DISGUSTING FOLKS – you all fall for it ALL OF THE TIME too)
“All Work, Less Play in Public Schools – June 1999)
http://www.chicagoreporter.com/1999/06-99/0699main.htm

Time 24:04 Now Kozol wants us to believe that in some states NAP TIME IN KINDERGARTEN has been canceled so that they can prepare these kids for their THIRD GRADE TESTS. This guy becomes less credible the more he talks.

Time 24:14 Kozol “These tests have TRANSFORMED THE ENTIRE YEAR in Urban schools”. Once again – Mr Kozol TELL US HOW IT WAS BEFORE NCLB came along. What SUCCESS we had. Evil Bush snatched this success away.

Time 24:32 Dan Brown and the FIRST of his “stories” A kid “wrote stories” but FAILED THE TEST according to Dan Brown. Would YOU hire a lawyer that Dan Brown said was competent if your life depended on it?

Time 26:30 The DoE guy responds. I have to give this guy credit. He is taking in a bunch of B.S. From these two and he is responding rationally rather than emotionally. He needs to call them “liars” rather than saying that their attacks on the policies by the local administrators that they are attributing to NCLB is “short sighted”

Time 28:40 Again – another attack on NCLB by Kozol. The school spending choices are not that of their own. They are doing all of this because of their FEAR of NCLB.

THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS – The consequence of these UNIONZED PUBLIC EDUCATORS not educating our children is to have them replaced by PROFIT MAKING ENTERPRISES. (I just read through the International Socialist Magazine today. They were highlighting a situation in Los Angeles in which a COMPANY was allowed to open a charter school and thus this is a THREAT TO THE TEACHERS UNION they claimed. Funny how like minded LEFTISTS think alike, using the same fears in the process). Mr. Kozol needs to figure out if he is more
interested in teaching these kids or PROTECTING the Public School franchise.

Time 29:00 Oh my God. Oh my God. Our children should be measured on if they have achieved “BOUNDLESS MERRIMENT AND JOY “ rather than if they can ACTUALLY DAMNED READ and DO MATH!!!

Kozol wants our kids to WRITE POETRY!!!
We need more BLACK ENGINEERS with hard science skills.
Would YOU drive across a bridge that was designed by a civil engineer who couldn't do math but COULD WRITE GOOD POETRY?

Time 29:29 “WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? Is that on the curriculum? Is that going to help them on their standardized test?” Amen to the in class monitor. SHE IS RIGHT. Mr. Kozol is a TOUCHY FEELING LIBERAL who has allowed our situation to perpetuate for as long as it has!! Again another attack on NCLB

Time 30:22 ANOTHER DAMNED STORY from Dan Brown.

HEY WAIT A MINUTE. What is the title of Dan Brown's book?
“The Great Expectations School: A Rookie Year In The New BLACKboard JUNGLE”.

http://www.amazon.com/Great-Expectations-School-Rookie- Blackboard/dp/1559708352/ref=sr_1_1/002-6038963- 4919249?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188182611&sr=8-1

Now imagine that. What if a WHITE CONSERVATIVE used the word JUNGLE with anything having to do with BLACK STUDENTS? He would be called a WHAT? Oh well – at least he is TRYING to work in the best interests of Black students, unlike a conservative is: :-/

Time 35:20 A caller tells us that NCLB “dictates our day and guides our instruction”. OK. What was YOUR INSTRUCTION like BEFORE NCLB? Where you EFFECTIVELY teaching these kids?

Time 35:57 Kozol says that the claims about NCLB are FALSE. He should know about “false claims” brother.

Time 36:08 Kozol DISMISSES the testing gains seen in some schools. He says that it is easy to pump the test scores via rote learning. “If they were LEARNING GAINS they would sustain themselves”. He said that he followed 4th graders who are now in 8th grade and (AFTER NCLB) they can't write a cogent sentence.

Now lets see. This is all due to NCLB. Recall folks – it was implemented in 2002. It took 4 years to reach the 8th grade so at best there are 2 years of 8th grade students for Mr. Kozol to base his claims off of. What METHODS did he use to produce his results?
Does he have a sample of NON NCLB student who COULD WRITE absent the
EDUCATIOAL THEFT of NCLB? The more this guy talks the more he loses his credibility.

Time 36:45 They don't know have to read a simple text because they “never had a chance to ask discerning questions”

YOU SEE FOLKS – the WHITE SUPREMACY shines through here for Mr. Kozol. His goal is to attack the STATE of education for these Black kids. Since he can't attack THEM as ignorant and can't attack their parents – he is USING THEM as a vehicle to attack an education policy that he does not like. Thus these IGNORANT BLACKS are his poster children.

Do you believe that at the start of school in September 2002 that the NCLB program came in like gangbusters and railroaded the entire school systems around the country? Do you believe that absent this program these kids would have been at grade level and college material?

The sad fact is that Kozol is a breath of fresh air for the Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive- Fundamentalist Racism Chaser. Their goal is to SHIFT THE BLAME of our condition upon the system. Mr. Kozol – a WHITE LIBERAL provides seeming credibility to their efforts. In truth he is the SNARLING FOX that Malcolm X talked about. If a White Conservative pointed to the ILLITERACY of a group of Black 8th graders and used them for his agenda – he would be called a RACIST. Mr Kozol does the VERY SAME THING but adds a CONJUNCTION to the message – blaming the POLICY and thus the BQPFRC accepts this because MORE MONEY just might come from our pose for the camera.

Time 36:56 “They can't even participate in an interesting class discussion at the secondary level...”

The sad fact is that Black teachers would be inclined to go along with Mr. Kozol because they think that HE IS A FRIEND, seeking the same thing as THEY ARE. He is really coming into their schools to capture samples of FAILURE in order to advance his cause.

Time 37:14: ANOTHER freaking story by Dan Brown. “The learning isn't there. Its not for the students'. ONCE AGAIN – Mr Brown – if you could tell us WHAT THINGS WERE LIKE before NCLB I would add to your diminishing credibility.

Time 38:40 According to the National Assessment on Educational Progress - Reading scores have improved for 9 year olds in the last 5 years than in the past 28 years combined.

Time 39:59 “I refuse to treat these inner city school kids as if they were a different species. I won't rob them of their childhood”. Yeah RIGHT Mr. Kozol. You INDEED see them as “different' so much so that you can't ASK ANYTHING OF THEM.

AGAIN – Mr. Kozol believes that the TESTING is driving these teachers out of these inner city schools. Nothing about the violence, the thugs, the behavioral problems within the class. It is all NCLB. How many of you all believe this? I recall a few years ago Philly had a series of student on teacher assaults that made headlines. A school teacher had HER tooth knocked out by a student who punched her in the mouth. No mention of this by Kozol - this would be "blaming the victim" for the part that he has played in his condition.

Time 40:58 Hey WAIT A MINUTE. You mean BROWN left the “Jungle” after ONE YEAR? Does anyone listening to this full audio notice that Kozol is more of the zealot while Brown is more of a shell shocked liberal White man who had never interacted with poor Blacks before?

Time 41:50 Dan Brown talks about smaller class rooms. Why is it that the BLACK COMMUNITY never practices SOCIALISM when and where it needs to? That oft heard claim “PEOPLE BEFORE PROFITS” needs to be applied to TEACHERS and those who are aggrieved about the system as it stands today. Why not accept a SALARY that would allow for the small class sizes in PUBLIC schools that Dan Brown and Kozol talks about the WHITE FOLKS having if this is the solution?

Instead Kozol has us go on an endless chase for more money from the government – from an economic system that IS BEYOND the production of these specific communities.

Time 43:00 IF small class sizes are the CURE ALL that Mr. Kozol claims then, again – where is the Black community in PROVIDING THE LABOR to make this happen since doing this for about 30 years would REPAIR US if you allow Kozol to tell it? If WE are the direct beneficiaries of this standard then why must we wait for the government to pay for it?

Time 44:45 Dan Brown with his sob story about how THE PARENTS want to help their kids but don't have the tools to do so. Again – no hint of telling the parents “BEFORE YOU BRING A CHILD INTO THIS WORLD you need to.........”. It is all a matter of feeding into their inferior situation upon bringing a child into the world. It's just not FAIR!!

Time 47:30 Caller “Address the ATTITUDE of the teachers and school administrators surrounding NCLB”. I will look for an article in which a group of teachers that were once opposed to NCLB, mainly due to ideological (anti-Bush) feelings found that it was not as bad as they thought once they got used to it.

George S. Schuyler - A Different But Important Perspective on the Civil Rights Movement

George S. Schuyler, All-American
http://www.geocities.com/nstix/schuylerallamerican.html

But his criticism of the Civil Rights Movement may have been what most endeared him to some and alienated him from others. To Schuyler, the Civil Rights Movement undermined any programs among African Americans that might foster what he had advocated since the 1930s: self-help capitalism. Much like Booker T. Washington, Schuyler had encouraged blacks to start businesses not only to provide services to the African-American community but also to gain the respect and business of whites. He also criticized Civil Rights Movement leaders as charlatans as he had portrayed race leaders in Black No More (Schuyler’s atheism had always fostered doubts regarding ministers’ sincerity). He also believed the Civil Rights Movement fostered a dependency on the government to solve all financial and societal problems. Here is an excerpt from Schuyler’s typically controversial Pittsburgh Courier column in which he harshly criticized the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the organization in which Martin Luther King, Jr., played a vital role: "What sort of image has been presented by the organized rowdies, with their deceitful hymn-singing and praying, and indictments to civil disobedience and Hitlerian street-fighting? These tactics led to golden opportunities for Southern cops to manhandle, mistreat and jail thousands of Negroes who should have been in school, learning how to make a decent living."

It is important that we not mistakenly believe that all of our "civil rights heroes" were gods and that there was no legitimate criticism of their tactics. Brother Schuyler provided a value analysis of the movement in real time.

Those who are inclined to attack Schuyler for his criticism of King fail to realize that Malcolm X was also a critic of King. Few would discredit Malcolm X on the grounds for his criticism. Likewise there was a flow of criticism about Malcolm X from Dr. King. In essence there was a triangle of criticism between these three individuals as they all chose to achieve the same end via three different methodologies.

While some may further attempt to discredit Schuyler by asking "what protests marches did he lead" as these other two did, as a WRITER few would ask the same question of the modern day pen men - DeWayne Wickham, Derick Z Jackson, or Cynthia Tucker.

I have read at least 3 of Mr. Schuyler's works and I found them to be valuable critiques of a movement and of men that who collectively worked hard to bring our community the opportunities that we have today. Such criticism when it leads to CORRECTION and a "checking of power" is a valuable resources to keep us operating on the straight and narrow. The force that would suppress such criticism is to be feared.

"What Black Men Think" By Janks Morton

C-SPAN "Q&A" with Janks Morton, creator of "What Black Men Think"

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=200322-1&tID=5

What Does the White Liberal Think Of YOU?

Here is an audio report on the Diane Rhehm Show on NPR. The target guest is Jonathan Kozol - educational activist. I have personally read two of Mr. Kozol's books as my interests, as his, is in the education of Black children.

I am of the opinion that Mr. Kozol is a WHITE SUPREMACIST. Now let me position this claim. One does not have to HATE BLACK PEOPLE in order to believe that White People are superior to Black people. Their ways, their culture, the systems that they are able to create for their own best interests.

Mr. Kozol as a guest of "American's Black Forum" stated that he is of the belief that the only way that Black children can get a quality education is for them to be seated in a classroom of White children and thus Black people should focus our political strategy on INTEGRATION over everything else. A majority Black school is never going to provide quality educational services to Black children he stated.

On the panel that day was Rev. Floyd Flake of NYC. Rev. Flake runs a private school that is affiliated with his church. He gave Mr. Kozol several examples of how his students are performing at top rates and he went on to give other examples of Black schools that are doing it right without having WHITE FOLKS providing us with a good education via osmosis. At this point Mr. Kozol summarily dismissed all of the examples of Black Educational Quality that the panel had put forth to him.

At this point I saw a first after years of watching the show......All of the Black panelists - liberal and conservative GOT IT!!! They read between the lines of what Mr. Kozol was indicating - BLACK PEOPLE ARE INFERIOR in our ability to provide quality education to our children when left on our own. The entire panel united AGAINST HIM.

Yesterday as I listen to the attached interview with Kozol and the other White Liberal who is a contributor to the leftwing Huffington Post web site as I was driving to work - I was made to cuss, scream and swerve on the road in response to their way of thinking and their paternalistic ways.

I realize that upon listening to the CONTENT of their words that many of you are going to AGREE WITH WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. You are going to agree that these schools need more resources. You are going to agree that smaller class sizes are a good thing. You are going to agree that each student in America should have access to a quality education. I am going to do a follow up posting after having gone through the entire 1 hour interview and provide "color commentary" to all of the claims they have made and provide the LOGICAL NEXT QUESTION that Ms. Rehm, a White liberal herself would NEVER ask.

Bill Cosby Still Making Important Inroads Despite The Haters

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/annette_john-hall/20070824_Annette_John-Hall___These_days__Bill_Cosbys_critique_is_connecting.html
These days, Bill Cosby's critique is connecting

Whether he's quietly footing college tuitions for poor students, giving millions to historically black colleges and universities, or parachuting in to hot spots such as his hometown, it's pretty clear where Cosby's heart is - now that we can hear him.

"I don't think he was talking down to us," said Arris Nelson, 34, a single mother of two girls, 15 and 13. "He was talking out of concern.

"I'm glad he came," she said. "We need him here."

Atlanta Ponders Banning Dropping Pants (Clap Clap Clap)

http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2007/08/22/saggy_0823.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab
Proposal would ban underwear-exposing pants

I was thinking the other day as I watched two Black males walking down the streets holding their crotches to KEEP THEIR PANTS UP with their underwear exposed......."there are few fads that have been more harmful to the image of the Black male than these big pants".

As the story goes - the Black male is seen as a sexually aggressive and uncontrollable beast who might rape otherwise innocent women and thus he is a threat to society.

To see scores of young Black males with their UNDERWEAR EXPOSED in the back and the palm of their hands placed squarely on their genital area as they walk down the street - you couldn't ask for a more well placed self inflicted wound unless a surgeon assisted with the cut.

I am no longer sure where fads are generated from. Who ever made this one was attempting to strike at the heart of counter-cultural rebellion. It is said that this came from the prison jumpsuit. This is probably so. Now the fashion designers have created pants that are cut to fit this fad.

Of course we can not assume to be 100% accurate about how this clothing style correlates to the person's character but from the stand point of PROJECTED consciousness........this reflects very negatively on the wearer.

I would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER allow my son to exit my house with anything closely approximating this.

"Being A Black Man" Series - Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/23/AR2006122300955.html

Special recognition to the Washington Post and NPR News & Notes for putting out the great works of FBI Assistant Director, Mike Mason, the highest ranking African American in the agency.

I was happy to hear Mr. Mason's outlook on his responsibility within the FBI as well as putting the organization's role into the proper perspective TODAY. The FBI today is not "J. Edgar Hoover" and the Martin Luther King Jr. COINTELPRO operations. They serve a vital law enforcement function in our community and have developed thousands of African-American agents over the years into valuable contributors to the law and order of our nation.

This series is a good counterbalance to the negative and subversive tales that we too often hear done by community members who are far less clear in their value to our community and this country.

Beef & Bling Bling

What an interesting coincidence. On the same day that I happen to flip by BET and notice the "Beef" marathon that they are running today I also get a popup from Forbes.com that detail the list of Hip Hop multi-millionaires.

Hip-Hop Cash Kings by Lea Goldman and Jake Paine - Forbes.com

The documentary called "Beef" (1 through 4) was produced by Quincy Jones III. It details various "beefs" between popular hip hop music artists and how, in many cases it has lead to millions of dollars in music sales - as the list on Forbes.com articulates. Interestingly enough there is a large cross section of individuals that appear in the "Beef" series that also are on the Forbes list - T.I., Luda, and 50 cent.

What disappoints me the most, however, is that the movies documented stadiums full of fans who paid money out of their own pockets to see, in some cases chairs being thrown from one group to their "beef" opponents.

Still I search and I search, looking for that elusive "WHITE RECORD EXECUTIVE" who is always the brunt of the blame that provoked all of these "beefs" among the entertainers. He was no where to be found.

In my view there is something very wrong within our community when Snoop Dogg is compensated $17 million last year for his antics while the bulk of our community is complaining about the compensation package given to the CEO of "Home Depot" despite the fact that he employs tens of thousands of Black people in his operations while these entertainers often degrade us.

Beneath this entire set of exchanges, however, was the threat of violence. In the case of 50 Cent his failure to post bail for "DJ Smurf" caused their friendship to be irreparably severed. It seems that "DJ Smurf" laid down his life for "Fiddy" when "Fiddy" was shot several times in an attack. "DJ Smurf" cruised the streets for days.....SEEKING TO KILL WHO EVER SHOT "FIDDY". He stayed at "Fiddy" house for days, strapped in the event that anyone would come to finish off the job. When "DJ Smurf" was caught on gun charges, "Fiddy" wouldn't even bail him out. For this, it seems, "Fiddy must die". According to one rapper - there are two states that you can be in "Loyal" or "Disloyal".

As the homicide rates on our streets and the number of UNSOLVED murders continue to increase it is time to crack down on this petty ignorance that under girds the violence that is produced by the Hip Hop scene. We have a confluence of violent thugs, big money payouts, guns and fragile egos that which call for the death of anyone who might "diss them" on a recording. (Of course the Civil Rights Community is primarily focusing on the GUNS but to clarify.....not the guns in their waist bands but the guns only as they leave the store shelves of the government regulated gun shop into the hands of the straw purchaser. To follow the trail further would be "Snitching")

CS - Why Do You Oppose "Healthcare for All"?

tvd:

I have heard the claim "the system is brokes" echoed for quite some time. Could you clearly articulate why YOU believe "the system is broken" and for WHOM it is broken?
Why are you guys so aganist having health care for everyone?
"Against health care for everyone".
Hummmmmmm

Is it "Against health care for everyone" or AGAINST the furhter ABSTRACTION of the STANDARD OF LIVING that people live at from the GDP that their actions dictate?

Let's step away from the Glory World that Michael Moore has painted for us where the GOVERNMENT will pay for your transportation to and from the hospital and then give you a free nanny (from your perspective as a health care consumer but certainly not from your perspective as a tax payer).

Let us go a bit deeper.
I am assuming that the majority of us on this board are African-Americans. The frequent claim that I hear is about the THEFT OF OUR CULTURE as a result of Slavery and White Supremacy. At the same time there is a strident group within these same people who hate this capitalistic society and the policies that it uses to feed the "beast" who's belly we reside in.

Now these are the very same people who wish to receive benefit from this beast. Their membership is what provides them the RIGHT to receive health care who's cost is abstracted from them at the point of service.

Denmark - Practically speaking - what INCREASED SKILL is developed in this collective group of people as they accept more and more services from a nation that they say they are entrenched within? As we consider the STANDARD OF LIVING that we desire to have......does this transference of wealth based on membership IMPROVE the salient level of ability to PRODUCE AN ENVIRONMENT that they desire - absent this transference from an economic system that they thing is IMMORAL? Does the fact that they receive this benefit from this same system that they are critical off successfully LAUNDER these proceeds because they are now included in the bounty?

Please read this article and in particular the closing paragraphs (the racism chasing of Joe Beasley is not the relevant point - again look at the bottom: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/printedition/2007/08/09/gradyrace.html
Before the hospital integrated in 1965, when there were separate wings for black and white patients, it was often referred to in the plural, as "the Gradys." Some older Atlanta natives still use the phrase.

As the population of Atlanta became more heavily African-American, so did the county commissioners; they appointed more black representatives to the board, who, in turn, hired more African-American administrators.

The hospital's patient load was also becoming increasingly black. And as Hispanic immigrants moved into the area, many also began to use Grady's services.

Almost 40 percent of Grady patients are on Medicaid, a government program to provide health care for people with low incomes. Another 30 percent have no insurance.

WHO USES GRADY?

Inpatient

> 75% African-American

> 11% Hispanic

> 9% White

Outpatient

> 82% African-American

> 8% Hispanic

> 7% White

* During the first quarter of 2007
Above is the relevant point.
Now this hospital that is above 75% BLACK is now on the brink of closing.

Now the Civil Rights Industrial Complex will blame this on

*Racism in funding
*Long term ECONOMIC stratfication of Black people
*Lack of Carying from WHITE FOLKS

Denmark - where is there any discussion of the ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION OF BLACK PEOPLE to the funding of this resource that THEY SAY is important to them?

Again - WE ARE RECONSTRUCTING OUR CULTURE - AREN'T WE?

I learned in a documentary a few weeks ago that the Swahili word for "free" translates into "cheap". In their culture they are not inclined to accept anything for free without exchanging something - EVEN A TOKEN EFFORT - in the process.

My fundamental disagreement with "Health Care For All" is that it futher ABSTRACTS the important INFRASTRUCTURE that our community needs to be building from the STANDARD OF LIVING that we ultimately DESIRE.

One only needs to look at Detroit, the people standing and waiting in New Orleans, the former factory town of Gary that was named after an executive at US Steel who's PURPOSE for creating the town was that their was INDUSTRY that needed to be executed. The people came to where the OPPORTUNITY was.

Today the "Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive-Fundamentalist Racism Chaser" has abandoned all of this underpinning in the name of our RIGHT to live at a certain STANDARD OF LIVING because of or MEMBERSHIP rather than AS A RESULT OF OUR INDUSTRIOUSNESS

They are a high perversion of everything that BOOKER T. WASHINGTON taught us. More than 100 years after this man walked the Earth and today this new mentality has us perverted to the core.

Denmark - think about it. What makes a man? HIS WORK. Speaking for me personally - my mental development, my confidence, my learning initiatives, my socialization - all have MY WORK closely tied to it.

The value of my labor is tied to my time invested in enhancing it. From this I make MORE MONEY. My children and my wife benefit from this INVESTMENT. From which my QUALITY OF LIFE for my family benefits.

The Democratic argument to accompany everything that I just said will be - WE NEED TO TAKE THE BURDEN OFF OF THESE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING so that they too can focus more on the "finer things in life" as they might consider myself to have. Think about it Denmark - do you think that the Progressive politician will EVER reach the point at which THE POOR has all the resources that they need to "make it" and thus the PROGRESSIVE becomes CONSERVATIVE and begins to EXPECT THESE PEOPLE TO SHOW PROGRESS?

By definition they are WORKING ON BEHALF OF........the poor rather than working WITH THE POOR to have them stop DOING EVERYTHING TO REMAIN POOR. (This is critical to understanding my frustration and criticism of them).

Their very reelection hopes hinge on more TRANSFERENCE from the system that creates wealth and a high standard of living as part of their campaign promises. Those who are cheering them along need to ask themselves ARE WE STRONGER AS A PEOPLE IN ACCEPTING THESE RESOURCES WITHOUT TRADING SOMETHING OF VALUE THAT WE HAVE IN RETURN?

Denmark - you are right. I have no claims that "Government Healthcare causes you to die 30 years earlier" or "if you accept such care they will intentially poison you because you are Black".

The bulk of my opposition to such is my knowledge of the "Farmer and the Wild Mountain Boars" who yielded themselves to the farmer's feed until enough of the new generation who knew not what it was like to forage for their own food and defend their mountain land had died off while the new generation that only knew to come to the trough that the farmer laid out for their daily sustinance, never realizing that he was closing the diameter of his fence each month.

We say that our CULTURE HAS BEEN STOLEN.......what type of culture are we building with the "reparations" that are trickling back....one government check at a time as we pursue what we have a RIGHT to receive but limited knowledge about how to MAINTAIN upon the collapse of a system that we have grown so comfortable with.

This will never be the POPULAR position within the Black community but surely few can argue that it is WRONG and indeed future hindsight might prove that Booker T. Washington was a fortune teller.

Congratulations To Barry Bonds & Hank Aaron

As I woke up this morning and checked the news I saw that Barry Bonds has hit number 756. I am happy for this man and his accomplishment. I like Barry Bonds because he is a complex individual. The long, one on one interview that I saw with him last year in which he fought off his detractors and then eventually cried on camera showed that he is strong but he is also human. He has been against the media for a good portion of his career, not granting interviews but spouting controversial outbursts over the years. As the old saying goes - "don't go to battle with an adversary that buys their ink by the barrel and their paper by the ton"....no doubt Barry Bonds did not stand a chance coming out of this unscathed.

I am bothered by his likely use of steroids. I saw an interview with Gary Sheffield who reportedly lived with Bonds for a period of time during the off season. He saw the topical creams that Bonds used that reportedly contained steroids. I have to agree with the assessment that since Baseball had no clear rules on the use of the substance and failed to address the issue back then that Bonds is not the only one who should be brought to the shed because of these allegations that the system allowed, mainly because it created a sluggers derby and resulted in increased excitement and attendance.

I have to give a greater applause to the man - Hank Aaron. He is a first class individual from what I know of him from my time spent in his home town of Atlanta. I have seen him appear at various local speaking posts. I saw my coworkers go out of their way to purchase a car from one of his dealerships.

Mr. Aaron has been gracious in all of this conflict about Barry Bonds edging forward past his record. The number 755 has been the trademark of Aaron for a long time. Barry Bonds owns the home run record now. He will have to work to rise up to Hank Aaron's level a bit.

Percy Julian - Scientist, Civil Rights Activist, Corporate Leader

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_Lavon_Julian

This was a truly great and intelligent American. Having been born into a family in which education and 'doing your best' trumps everything else that might stand as an obstacle in your way - this man lead a rich life in which he rose to the top of his profession despite the racial ignorance that attempted to block him.

His life's story needs to be presented today to all young Black children of today. Where as when he grew up in the early years of the 1900's school for Black people ended at the 8th grade. There was no need for Black people who were being tracked into jobs of field hands and maids to have an advanced education. When the White controlled public libraries refused to allow them admission....his father built up his own library for the children's consumption.

Later on in life when various universities denied him admissions to earn his doctorate in chemistry.....he traveled to Europe to purse his goal and was successful.

As an employee of the Glidden Corporation he was responsible for several important discoveries that lead to patents in the medical field. He started his own corporation when the Glidden got out of the medical business to focus exclusively on paints. He overcame challenges put forth by the Mexican government to protect a homegrown company against competition from Julian's company. This lead to a new collapse of his entire enterprise. He found another source of the important resource that was one thought only available in Mexico and became a multi-millionaire as the head of Julian Laboratories.

His company became the major employer of Black chemists and scientists that others rejected due to their skin color. Mr. Julian demanded that his employees work at their full potential and commit to a higher standard of performance. So much of his actions and theories run counter to what is popular today in certain areas within our community.

The name Percy Julian needs to be resurected within our community as we attempt to find our way forward in communities that will depend increasingly on enterprising individuals to create jobs where the traditional industries have departed.

The Class Interactions Of Black People

I had a very interesting debate with a good friend of mine. We both come from very different backgrounds and this explains much of the differences in our outlooks and strategies despite the fact that the education of the 4 principals under discussion have worked to place our children in the same light. The 4 principals are my friend and his wife and me and my wife. All of us are college educated with professional jobs. We have decided to build our families in the outer suburbs where there are good schools, mixed communities consisting of people with similar income and educational profiles.

I agree with my friend that the environment that we have chosen to engineer have thus far sheltered our young children from the harshness of the ghetto and other areas where poverty and violence have shaped the lives of the people living within. The key point that triggered the conversation was the recent summer vacation of his children to their grandparent's house. In their 3 week stay his children got to interact with the other children in the neighborhood. One of his daughters became distraught over being called "fat" by one of the other children who she had made friends with. This crushed her feelings and provoked her to call my friend in tears. My friend's view is that this is good for his daughter in that such a conflict will cause her to grow strong and be able to better handle the obstacles that life will bring her in the future. ".......needs to be punched in the mouth in order to have her see that everyone does not live like her" - said my friend.

I told my friend that I understood his viewpoint and partially agreed but that we should not allow the clear intelligence of both of our groups of children to be sidetracked as they work to "relate to" and deal with those people who's life's destination are so likely different than the track that our children are on. Just as with any other solidly middle class family - our children have more resources and family structures working in their favor and thus they have a broader foundation. Why have them bear the chains that they don't wear because of our efforts?

My friend's basis is that the "reality for Black people in America is different from that which our children are being raised". I asked him to define the authentic REALITY for Blacks but he agreed that he had no answer for that. I told him that our "reality" in no less legitimate than these others that he refers to. My view is that I am going to prepare my children as much as possible for success and balance in this world. In promoting them in this way they will enter areas that the dawning of 'freedom' but the lack of 'economic resources and positioning' over the last 40 years prevented us from ascending to.

My pastor said "Don't try to put on the shackles that our ancestors have long attempted to take off". It seems to me that as we ascend the stairs that were once blocked that we can't turn around and walk back down the stairs. This does not mean "DON'T HELP" or "Don't reach back". This does mean that in a world of competing CULTURES.....you had better know YOURSELF, realize the deficiencies in a conflicting CULTURE and insure that you adopt as many attributes from the positive culture while rejecting the negative elements of the other cultural set. I believe that my friend is too enamored with the notion that there is some legitimacy in the popularity of certain cultural forces and he is unsure of the uncharted waters in which we are navigating through.

What Is The Logical Opposite of "I've Got Mine You've Got To Get Yours"?

What Is The Logical Opposite of "I've Got Mine You've Got To Get Yours"?

So frequently within the Black community can this phrase be heard. It describes a Black person that has "made it" and is said to have turned their backs upon the rest of the Black community, especially the poor and uneducated.

More precisely, however, this is applied to the person who the person making the judgment has deemed to have taken advantage of the bloodshed during the Civil Rights Movement, the special programs such as Affirmative Action or the general struggle made by Black people to give that person the opportunity that he is FOOLISH enough to believe he has made on his own. He is now telling other Blacks to "figure it out for themselves" - at least in the opinion of his critics. This may or may not be so.

This is not the prime focus of this posting, however. My purpose here is to document the opposite effect and the greater harm that is seen by the Black community. The opposite of "Ive Got Mine....." is the Black person who allows their own personal depression to make the assumption that all other Blacks are similarly aggrieved, that their problems are a function of their RACE rather than any attribute of their own failings, and, most importantly, that any Black person that does not relate to and give comfort toward his condition is not REAL BLACK".
