"Good Times" - "The Baby" Episode Is An Excellent Reference Of How Much America (And Black Americans) Have Changed In The Area Of "Black Child Birth" And Have Not Changed About "Welfare"
I originally said I was going to keep this post in draft mode until I purchase the "Good Times" episode and embedded the video.
The narrative of the episode "The Baby" was like experiencing a time warp.
- A Black female character pops up out of nowhere for this episode
- She is a married, mother of 4 existing children and she gets pregnant by her husband again
- They are too poor to keep this additional child so the woman plots on DOING THE "UNTHINKABLE"
- What is the UNTHINKABLE?......................................
- NO NO NO, not ABORTION - as would be the message today
- Back in the mid 1970's when "Good Times" was running the writers chose to GIVE THE BABY UP FOR ADOPTION
STOP RIGHT THERE!!!
In watching the two matriarchal females - Florida and Wilona, expressing concern for what this woman might do with her baby - I can think OF NO PRESENT DAY SHOWS that would have presented these nuances. ("It is your baby. Girl you MUST do the right thing and carry it to term' We'll help your through it.")
Of course the writers created an artificial mini drama, teasing the audience that the choice was "Abortion". We know that abortion was legal during that time in America.
DOES ENTERTAINMENT REFLECT THE POPULAR WILL OR DICTATE IT?
I say both.
Not My POLITICAL Blog: Notice How Progressive Advocates Present Their Efforts As Fighting "Right-Wing Extremists" But Are Never Forced To Document The (Organic) SUBSTANCE Of Their Efforts (Beyond Fighting)
I have given up trying to embed C-SPAN Book TV videos. Here is the link for you to view for yourself.
THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL ANALYSIS.
THIS IS A PATTERN ANALYSIS
Few sane people would disagree that the "Middle East IS IN NEED OF A MAJOR REFORMATION" - and that "Political Islam" must be realigned to a set of more productive goals.
They are nothing more than Totalitarian Oppressors of a different mold.
When I hear the various voices of reform in the Middle East and then attempt to categorize them with regard to well known assignments - the Progressive Feminist rears her head - in this particular video.
When Mona Eltahawy gives a "Shot Out" to - and I'll use her words: "The three Black Queer Feminists in America who started the BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT" the true agenda of her rants were uncovered.
I am trouble to see "People Of Color" (Black Americans) who are so cocooned inside of their own "Racial Political Religion" inside of America that they become IGNORANT to the plight of other Black people in the diaspora whose plight has absolute legitimacy.
The main resource that this other group of Black people - with far greater numbers - lack , is the American media propagation.
The worst thing that could ever happy to the continuing integration and colonization inside of America is to have the "Black subject" splitting their loyalties between their American interests and a true commitment to the plight of others outside of the realm that they are most comfortable with.
If you notice, Ms Eltahawy focus on the RIGHT-WING (fundamentalist) elements of Islam.
I have no particular problem with the label if used inside of the container of her nation of Egypt.
It is when Ms Eltahawy used her own PROGRESSIVISM to take a trip around the world and unite disparate FEMINIST MOVEMENTS - that everything fell apart.
If her logic holds - the "American Right-Wing" who is gunning for war with the "Islamic Right-Wing" should be seen as equal fundamentalists and that they lack of willingness to become "Progressive" is the source of the violence.
But we see (both) a Progressive US President who is continuing the war against these "Right-Wing Islamic force" AND a former "US Secretary Of State" (Hillary Clinton) who also supported war in the neighboring Libya - who are carrying out what our entrenched labels would call "Right-Wing American Policies" against the Middle East.
Of course this does not mesh with reality.
Ms Eltahawy speaks of "Women Wanting To Control Their Own Bodies". Indeed this is a universal Feminist / Progressive mandate.
The reason why I put this post upon my "Cultural Strategist blog" is because the mandate that Ms Eltahawy is pushing IS BASED ON NOTHING other than "Feminist/Progressive" notions of FREE WILL.
If the CONSERVATIVES are battling with "Women's Bodies" to entrench their political interests...............What might the PROGRESSIVE FEMINISTS be doing?
OK - you say "Your Body. You get to make the decisions".
This level of comfort that you pontificate is a FUNCTION of the system whereby everyone submits to rule of law and order - so your human rights as a female can be respected.
It is clear that in a state of chaos women and children are the primary victims.
Yet Ms Eltahawy is so bathed in Progressive theory that she can't see that her dual mistake of demanding reforms based upon a destination with little substance AND (ironically) speaking of the Male/Female interrelationship near exclusively from the Woman's Feminist agenda makes it impossible for any of these societies to reach a desired state of reform.
